The Library
Elaine has turned into a bookworm. Instead of carrying around a toy or baby doll, she always has a book. If you pause or sit for more than a second, she will be in your lap with a story to be read. You might get halfway through the book before she decides she wants a different book. Her favorite books right now are Green Eggs and Ham and The Tooth Book by Dr. Seuss.
We have been to the library before, but Elaine did not understand the concept yet. Our library (conveniently located two blocks away…I love NYC!) has a reading room for kids five years old and under. There is a big rug in the floor, and all of the books are board books, shelved in no particular order. We walked in and Elaine was in heaven!
With so many books to choose from, she flitted from one shelf to another, leaving a trail of books behind her. We did manage to read a few pages, and pick a few to bring home. There is a weekly storytime for kids 18 months and under every Monday morning. We are planning to attend next week!
Elaine would bring a book to the chair, read for a minute, and then move on. This continued until there was a book on every chair!
That is so awesome! I think the very best thing I learned from my mother-in-law was to encourage the kids with books and reading very early on. We used to go to story hour; it was great. I even liked being read the stories!
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait for your visit! We'll go to the library for sure! I sure wish I had kept all those Dr. Seuss books I had when you kids were small!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it...I am commenting at the same time as you Sissy! It's like a party! Andrea, I can hardly wait for your visit, we'll go to the library one day! How I wish I had hung on to all those Dr. Seuss books I had when you kids were small!
ReplyDeleteMy kids love story time at the library! We have been going since Esther was a baby. They got a new story lady that we don't like as much, so we don't go as often. Elaine will love story time.
