A City Life For Me

We used these pretty little jars on the guest tables at our baby shower over the weekend .  They were really easy to make, but I thought they added a lot!  For a couple of weeks, I saved baby food jars from Nolan.  I removed the labels, but there is always some of the gummy junk left where the label was glued.  I wanted to cover it, but I wanted the light from the candle to show through. I made a strip of paper lace using cardstock and my Martha Stewart edging punch.  I tried using typing paper, but it was too thick for my punch.  I thought it would take forever to punch both sides of the strips for all of those jars (I made 21), but it really went fast!  I adhered the paper lace with double sided scrapbooking adhesive.  But…the cardstock was heavy enough that the ends kept coming undone.  So I added a dab of hot glue to secure the end.  Next time I think I will try sticky strip. For the past couple of months I have been helping to plan a surprise baby shower for one of the ladies in our church.  I have been working on lots of goodies, and almost bursting to share them…but that would have spoiled the surprise.  So…since the baby shower was on Saturday, now I can spill the pictures! Mary’s baby #3 is a girl, and we know her name will be Mia, so we were able to do some personalized things for the shower.  I had fun reverting back to my girly side and doing everything in pink and polk-a-dots! The girls in the church donated their American Girl dolls to be used as centerpieces.  Ladies in the church crocheted booties in different colors and sizes to be used as decorations, but also to give to Mary for baby Mia. I used some 12x12 scrapbooking paper to draw a color contrast and tie in the polk-a-dots for the table decorations. This year Ben and I headed up the annual Harvest Party at church.  The theme we chose was “The First Thanksgiving.”  The kids usually come in costume for the theme, so I made Elaine and Nolan little Indian shirts. My Happy Little Indian Girl! I made the costume several weeks ago.  I could barely get Nolan’s shirt on him this morning!  Here they are in the teepee. Being a new mommy to two kiddos means…I’m always tired, and I don’t always get to sleep at night!  I have been wanting to write this post for several days, but I’m just now getting around to it. On Saturday, July 23rd, I was the recipient of a “Shower of Blessings” in the form of a baby shower for Nolan.  The ladies at Bethel Baptist Fellowship surprised me (yes – I was really surprised) and hosted the shower while my mom was in town.  Ben’s mom and sister also came down for the shower.  Ben told me we were going to the Aquarium, but we had to stop at church first to finish a project.  (It was something that I had been asking nagging him to do for a few weeks).  He got me into the auditorium by saying he left his Bible there earlier that morning during the visitation outreach.  When I walked through the door I was greeted with “surprise” by all of the ladies and girls of the church.
