30 Random Issues for my 300th post!

This is the 300th post here at Random Issues.  To “celebrate” I thought I would share some random things with you…but only 30, not 300!  Here goes…and if you read it all there may be a surprise!

::1 – I come from an awesome family, I joined an awesome family, and I have a loving Heavenly Father.  Life doesn’t get any better!

::2 – The name of my blog was inspired by Shannon Trull, my roommate and friend from college.  I would always say, “you’ve got issues,” and she would say, “that’s random with a capital ‘A’”.  When I was digging for a creative blog title, Ben pulled Random Issues out of his hat!

::3 – I have been married to my best friend for 2 years, 7 months, 23 days, and 13.5 hours at the time of this post.  (Hopefully I got the math right).

::4– I have a tea cup collection.  All of my teacups are bone china from England.  When I was growing up, tea parties were a regular event with Mom, Grandma, Aunt Robin, and Aunt JoEllen.  I was born in England, so I collect the English tea cups.

::5 – I cut Ben’s hair to save money on the barber.  I have only “butchered” it a couple of times, and he is always very understanding (because he is cheap too)!

::6 – I love living in New York City.  Betcha didn’t see that one coming!

::7 – Elaine was born on her due date.  She broke tradition on both sides of the family by arriving on time.  (Hahaha to both of my Moms!)

::8 – My favorite websites are MoneySavingMom, Cloth Diaper Blog, and Facebook.  I stop in at Amazon, Ebay, the Drudge Report, and the Weather Channel occasionally.

::9 – I am obsessed with cloth diapers.  Strange…I know!

::10 – If I were to get a puppy today, I would choose a Scottish Terrier.  Sadly, I’m not getting a puppy.

::11 – I absolutely cannot go to sleep without washing my face.  I just can’t do it!

::12 – Every year I make a chocolate cake with chocolate icing.  That is all Ben ever requests on his birthday.

::13 – My favorite color is purple, and that’s how I met my best girlfriend Danielle.  She likes purple too.

::14 – I have played the piano for 21 years.  I never thought I would marry a piano player, and we have occasionally had fun with a duet!

::15 – I have been forever reading the child training book and “Behold the City”.  But so far, they’re really good!

::16 – In the last month I have not stayed in one place for more than a week.  First Virginia Beach, then Brooklyn, then Arkansas, then Colorado, and now back to Brooklyn.

::17 – I got my ears pierced when I was a kid, but I don’t want Elaine to get hers pierced until she’s a teenager.  No particular reason.

::18 – Ben only likes white hangers, and he likes all of his shirts hanging one direction with the top collar button done.  It’s about the only thing I can think of that he is picky about.

::19 - I really dislike humidity.  Raised in dry Colorado, the sticky feeling on my skin has never quite felt “normal.”  However, I seem to be destined to live on the east coast.

:: 20 – I get really excited when I save a lot of money with coupons at the grocery store.  It’s exhilarating!

::21 – We don’t own a TV.  We haven’t since we were married, and we don’t intent to get one anytime soon.  However, you notice I still haven’t finished those books…

::22 – Lots of people in my life have or have had “big” birthdays this year.  Wesley…21, Kenny…25, Ben…25, Dad…50, Mom Hamilton…25 (the second time around, but I didn’t tell you that!), Elaine…1.

::23 – I am living a tragic coffee-less existence because I broke the carafe for my coffee pot last week.  Replacement arriving soon, I hope!

::24 – When I was in the hospital with Elaine, my friend Julia brought a stuffed bunny that has a satiny blanket as it’s body.  Elaine will not go to sleep without it.  It’s name is very original… “Bunny.”

::25 – I was born in England, I live in the United States, I have Swiss citizenship, and my name is on the Department of Homeland Security no-fly list.  Figure that one out!

::26 – I have memorized the books of Matthew, 2 Corinthians, and James in high school.  I’m a little rusty, but a lot of it is still there.

::27 – My favorite CD is Always Giving Glory and it is put out by Camp On Wheels.  It’s the best!

::28 – I’m not a huge baseball fan like Ben or soccer fan like my brothers, but I can get into football.  When the Denver Broncos went to the Super Bowl I went nuts (and Ben says I stayed that way)!  I wore orange & blue to church and even had my nails done to match!

::29 – I am the proud owner of New York state driver’s license.  Now I just gotta get up the nerve to drive!  I’m okay with blowing my horn and being aggressive, but it’s the parallel parking that scares me!

::30 – I am a new Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay cosmetics.  To celebrate my 300th post, and because I’ve always wanted to do one, I’m hosting a giveaway!  I am giving away a Mary Kay Travel Roll Up Bag (pictured below) to one of my readers.

travel bagThe bag is unfilled, and each of the four zippered pouches velcro for easy removal.  You can also hang the bag with the hanger on the inside.  Use it for travel or everyday organization!

It’s really simple to enter:

  • One entry per person.  Just leave a comment with your name and a way to contact you (email preferred).
  • Just because it’s Mary Kay doesn’t mean guys are excluded.  You can give it as a gift if you win!
  • For facebook friends, your comment needs to be on the blog not on facebook.
  • The giveaway is open for one week, and will close on Sunday, June 27th at midnight.
  • The winner will be chosen using random.org and posted here on the blog.  I will contact the winner to get the mailing address.

  3. I "re-remembered" some things from this post! It brought back great memories of you and Danielle in the dorm...your fetish with washing your face before bed! I never really thought much about it before I was Danielle's roomate, and now I wouldn't go to bed without it, either! I also had forgotten that Ben played the piano. Thanks for the interesting post, it was fun to learn about you again!

  4. I didn't realize Ben was so particular about his hangers!! Funny!
Just how much of a kid do you think you were when you got your ears pierced? I really can't remember. I thought you were like 13ish?!

  5. I never realized there was someone out there as particular about their hangers as I am! I only like the plastic hangers with the wire hook that clothes hang on in the stores! LOL

  7. Are you really on the No-fly list? Why? Does that mean you can't ever fly, or just a bunch of hassle when you want to fly?
