Pregnancy Update & Ultrasound Pics

happy-woman-pregnant-cartoon3 Today we had our 20 week ultrasound (I am actually nearly 22 weeks).  The report is good…baby is 1 pound, 1 ounce, & the heart, liver, kidneys, spine, and brain are developing normally.  On the screen they colored the blood flow so that we could see it cycling throughout the baby’s body.  We also saw & heard the heartbeat (this was the first time Ben had heard the heartbeat).  It was neat to see all of the little organs and body parts developing.  The technician pointed out the two arm bones, the eye sockets, one ear, and the chin.  We were able to see a “footprint” complete with all five toes.  One fist was visible and each little finger could be detected.  The “aerial” shot of the head showed both sides of the brain.  The close-up of the heart showed the four chambers and valves.  It was pretty amazing!

We want to be surprised, so we didn’t find out the sex.  Even if we had wanted to know, we would not have been able to tell.  Right now I am carrying the baby upside down – his head is pressing against my bladder, his body rests on my left side, and his rump is up by my belly button.  It was difficult to get a good view on the ultrasound, so the pictures aren’t terrific, but here they are!

22 Week Ultrasound 1

This was the best “full body” shot we could get – the leg, body, and head are labeled.

22 Week Ultrasound 3

This is a close-up of the head (on the right).  The dark circle toward the top of the head is an ear.  The dark spots in the body (on the left) are fluid – body parts like the heart, liver, kidneys, etc.

22 Weeks Baby Bump

For what it’s worth, this is my 22 week baby bump.  It’s not a lot, but it’s getting there.

New Swing

Ben had some extra time after the ultrasound was finished, so we stopped at a kids consignment shop.  We found this baby swing – brand new, for only $35 so we purchased it.  It’s very nice!

New Swing

This is my latest clothing purchase – a onesie that says “Are these people really my relatives?”
