A City Life For Me

This post has been brewing for a couple of years now.  I guess I’m finally brave enough to voice my thoughts.  But I have been censored and edited by my husband, who is much gentler and more forgiving than I. Through many of the recent posts floating around Facebook and Instagram (my favorite social network these days), it has become apparent to me that the celebration of Halloween is no longer taboo for many of my Bible believing friends.  I am personally very disturbed by this. Why is it that a holiday which is so evidently associated with evil has become something which Christians feel they can or have to participate in?  Why should we even celebrate it in an alternative manner? These verses are continually coming to mind: Ephesians 5:11 – “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” 2 Corinthians 6:14b-15 “…for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?  and what communion hath light with darkne...

I just have to brag on my kids for a minute. They love watching Wild Kratts on PBS, and since it's not laced with evolution we enjoy letting them. They have learned so much about Gods amazing creatures! In fact, zoo trips are not usually educational anymore.  My kids can spew out creature facts faster than we can read placards! So…all on their own…they came up with an idea, that they needed to tell Martin and Chris Kratt Who made all these wonderful creatures. My kids decided that the best thing would be to send the Kratts a Bible and tell them about Jesus. So today Elaine and Daddy drafted a letter which Elaine copied out neatly. We ordered a blue and a green Bible, because those are Martin and Chris' favorite colors. And we included a tract, a picture of our family, and some pictures colored by the kids. Since we were home for a couple of weeks to do some house hunting, Mom & Dad Hamilton, a.k.a. Grandma  & Grandpa came down for a day visit.  We enjoyed just being with them – puzzles, baseball, dinner, and everything in between! We managed to end in a tie so no one threw a fit about losing! Elaine, Nehemiah, Mom, Nolan, Henry, Dad, Libs The inevitable silliness that comes when we say “Lets take a picture!” Not bad for one taken by a kiddo…Elaine helped with this one!

Henry got his first haircut at Grandpa’s barber!  I expected to have to hold him, but he sat up there in the chair just about perfectly still!  Such a cutie pie!  

On one Saturday, my parents took the kids and I to hike Devil’s Head to the Fire Lookout station.  It is the only one of seven original fire lookouts still in use in Colorado.  We hiked this as kids, so it was fun to take my kids back.  They got very distratected  by the sticks and stones, but we did make it to the top!   I love the mountains! After hiking to the top and back, we drove down to the South Platte River so that we could have a picnic and swim.  It was a little busier than expected,  but the kids enjoyed the water.  When we were finished I sent Elaine to get in the van first.  She started screaming, so I investigated.  I found a baby garter snake slithering away.  Nolan chased it across the road, and Grandpa (the snake guy) helped to secure it.  Once Nolan touched it and didn’t fall over dead, all the...

After Yellowstone and a meeting in Wyoming, Ben took the kids and I back to my parent’s house in Denver.  We stayed there for a month while Ben went and had some meetings in California alone.  We had two reasons for splitting up:  first, we couldn’t find housing for all of us in CA, and it would be very costly to live in a hotel for a month; and second, because Ben needed some time alone to write his doctrinal papers for ordination.  The time in one place gave us some stability, and the kids were even able to take swimming lessons!
