A City Life For Me

I have several things that I have been thinking of sharing with you, but none of them seem worthy of a post by themselves.  So here is a big conglomeration and a sneak peak into my mind’s ramblings… Regarding NYC… :: We are getting more snow.  They are saying 8-10 inches.  :: The trash and recycling only just got picked up last night – at 10 p.m. – from the storm three weeks ago. :: Alternate side parking was put back into effect yesterday.  Rather than cleaning the streets of dust (since they really can’t do that right now) they plowed along the curbs where we have been parking.  At last our street is clear and parking will be back to normal.  Well, for a few hours at least.  This new snow storm may ruin everything! We sell cloth diapers online, as I’m sure you know.  Our inventory has been slowly taking over Elaine’s bedroom.  I had utilized all of the storage space and containers that I could muster up, and the boxes were still everywhere! Ben decided to use some of our Christmas money from Grandma to put up shelves along the top of the room.  What a blessing to feel organized!   Everything was piled in the living room while we Ben worked.  What a mess! Elaine loves Daddy’s tool closet!  My job, which I failed at miserably, was keeping her away from the screws. The finished product: Rumparooz and wet bags FuzziBunz bumGenius and accessories. Don’t be deceived – there is a lot of room to fill in as we build out business!  And Mom H., Ben said he is too busy to put up shelves in your house!

I need to give credit and glory to the Lord for His goodness to us this last week.  I have started a journal tracking all of the ways that God has provided for our family since we moved to New York City.  There are just too many to share here.  But last week was a monumental week for us, and me in particular. You probably know that we recently started a business selling cloth diapers online.  We took our meager savings and purchased a small inventory.  The goal, hope, or dream was that it would grow into something that could allow Ben to work less when we start planting a church in a few years.  We realized we didn’t have a lot of up-front money to start out big, and we expected the business to grow slowly.  Even though I knew all of this, I was pretty discouraged when I didn’t get any orders. So I know that I am biased because I am the mommy, but I just think Elaine has been especially cute lately.  Every day she discovers something new or surprises me.  Even Ben said this morning, “Baby Girl you are so cute!” Here’s a couple of random shots…I captured them for my diaper blog , but I am saving them until I am actually carrying this product to sell. I love this shot because of the light coming in and the concentrated expression on her face!   Don’t worry Mom.  I won’t fall.  I can stand up by myself!   Yup.  Pretty much she is always happy!

I’m in business!  Well, I’ve been in business as an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay.  But this week Ben & I ventured out in a new direction.  We are starting an online retail store for cloth diapers! We filed for our sales tax license on Monday.  We are still waiting for it to be approved before we can purchase our inventory and start selling. On Tuesday Elaine & I went downtown to the County Clerk’s office and registered the business.  Yesterday I purchased the domain name, and I have a web designer and host already picked out too. We are Doable Diapers , and we will carry (hopefully): bumGenius!
