Happy 2nd Birthday Nolan!

A few memories from Nolan’s two years…

A new family picture!

We went to the New York Aquarium with Grandma & Grampa Hamilton and Auntie Mere.  Then we took a little walk on the Coney Island boardwalk.  The kids spied the “rides” and so Grampa bought them a couple of rides on the roller coasters in kiddie land.  Then they had a “dip” in the water sprinkler in the sand.  Nolan had a roll in the sand too…the kids were pretty messy when it was all done!  We headed home for a nap.

After a supper of hot dogs with mac ‘n’ cheese (some of Nolan’s favorites), we let him dig into the presents.

Grandma & Grandpa Godby sent a Hunter Dan doll.  His boots come off.  Couldn’t be more perfect for Nolan right now!  We said, “Do you want to open another present?”  He gave an emphatic “NO!” and returned to Dan’s boots.  After.each.present!

Elaine gave Nolan a ball glove with Velcro baseball.  Then Mommy gave Elaine a pink ball glove so they could play together!

New boots from Mommy & Daddy!  It was Daddy’s idea, and the best ever.  One boot barely made it out of the bag before he was putting them on.  And yes, he did sleep in them last night.  And yes, he does protest if you take them off for a diaper change!

Grandma & Grampa “Fezzi” gave him a cowboy dress-up outfit to go with the boots.  The chaps are a little big, but he wore the hat and bandana to Sunday School today!  And yes, on the right he was back to Hunter Dan!

Auntie Mere did the cake!

Elaine showed him how to pull out the candles and lick off the frosting.  Sisters are good for that!

Happy Birthday Nolan!  Love you, Little Man!

Thankful Thursday

Just forget that today is really Friday, and pretend I wrote this on Thursday.  Because I was thinking it on Thursday, so that must count for something!  You’re probably tired of me talking about the twins, but I’m thankful for them again!  These little bundles of happiness have been sleeping through the night!  Whoopee!!!  Several nights last week, and for the last three nights, I have had uninterrupted sleep.  I can’t tell you how great that feels!

I’m also just overwhelmed with gratitude that they are here, healthy, and doing so well in their development.  I sometimes get on the Mother’s of Twins message boards.  So many ladies are on complete bed rest, have babies born at 28 weeks and in the NICU, or don’t yet have their babies home with them.  Others are at three months with their twins, and still getting up multiple times in the night.  I feel so blessed!

Another gratitude for whoever told me to read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child.  I got it when Nolan was a few months old.  It helped me a bit with him.  But these twins are “by the book.”  Now that I understand the sleep cycles a little more {sort of}, I have been able to cue into my babies better.  That has helped them get into a sleep routine, which has helped me too!  I want to say they are the easiest & best sleepers of my four kids, but perhaps I just finally know what I am supposed to do…

At nearly two months old, my cuties are smiling, holding their heads up, taking about 4 naps a day, and sleeping through the night.  That’s a lot to be grateful for!  Nehemiah weighed in at 11 pounds, and Liberty is 9.4 pounds.

My twins are tummy sleepers {don’t tell the pediatrician}, but I gave them some extra tummy time the other day.

Liberty Pushing Up
I thought Liberty was getting lazy, but she was really pushing herself forward by “standing” on her toes…

Nehemiah during nap time.  He keeps wiggling out of his blankets, and he loves to sleep with his feet tucked up like this.  I love his little toes!

The Bronx Zoo

Last week I embarked on a big adventure.  I took all four of my kiddos…on the train…to the Bronx Zoo!  My friend Maggy and I have zoo memberships which are getting ready to expire.  We wanted to go to the “big zoo” before that happened!  I could not have done this alone.  We planned to go on a Thursday so that I could bring Symphony (my mother’s helper) along.  Maggy brought two teens from her church also.  We were quite the entourage as we trekked down the subway steps with four children, two babies, and three strollers in tow.  It was even more of a sight as we loaded onto the train car as fast as we could, clogging up an entire doorway  with the strollers.  But we made it!

The twinsies did great – and looked cute, too!  I only have one little hat for Liberty, and it was a 6-9 months size so very large on her!  Nehemiah kept turning his to the side…guess he’s more “cool” than I thought!

When we arrived we had a picnic lunch.  It was perfect weather to be out and about – sunny, but not too hot, and a lovely gently breeze for most of the day.  Our first exhibit was to ride the “Wild Asia Monorail” which takes you to see various species of deer, antelope, the warthogs, tigers, and elephants, etc.  Nolan enjoyed pointing to different animals as we rode past.

Nolan enjoyed climbing the fence in line for the monorail.  He was fascinated by the birds in the rafters!

Last time we were here Nolan was not yet 1, and he was in a stroller the whole time!

We also saw the giraffes, the lions, the camels, and some monkeys as we strolled through the zoo.  We enjoyed a ride on the Bug Carousel (included in our membership!) and stopped in at the Children’s Zoo.  Then it was back on the train for the 1.5 hour ride home.

Even the ride home was full of excitement.  I’m glad we got on toward the end of the line so it wasn’t so crowded!  By the time we neared midtown, it was standing room only, if that (especially with our strollers!).  Nolan & Ian each conked out in a stroller.  The twins did well, though they were getting hungry.  Havilah & Elaine drank too much soda and Maggy had to get off at 34th St. to find a bathroom.  The rest of us kept riding and we met up at the transfer point in Atlantic Terminal.  We took the wrong elevator down, so we had to go back up and take the correct one.  It takes two elevator shifts to get all of the strollers down, so this took a bit of time.  But it was fun, and the kids enjoyed finally being off the train and running all the way down our street to make it home!

I’m grateful for a good friend who goes on these adventures with me, and that my kids have good friends to play with!  Elaine is always so excited to do anything with Havilah or her friend Elli!

Guest Posting…

Today I’m guest posting over at the Imperfect Homemaker.  Though you already know about the twinsies, they are the basis for my topic.  Here's a snippet of my post…

Accepting Grace jpg

On October 4, 2012 I went to the doctor to confirm my third pregnancy. Little did I know that when I left the office that day, I would enter a new season of life. You see, the doctor informed me that I was not only expecting our third child, but also our fourth…I was having twins! With this news came the realization that we needed to find a new apartment so that I wouldn’t be climbing three flights of stairs, my husband needed a new job making more money, and we needed a new vehicle that could hold four car seats. Life with four children ages three and under was definitely a season of life that I didn’t anticipate ever walking through!

Kids Were Here…

I recently stumbled on a blog of photographers sharing pictures which showed that “kids were here.”  They have a new post each month.  Though I’m not a part of it, I thought it was a fun photo prompt!  I’ve tried to see the “kid-ness” in messes and situations that would otherwise frustrate me at times.  So here’s my first picture… see if you can guess which kid was here!
